Users complaining of audio issues with FaceTime when using it on a pre-Bluetooth LE Mac on Yosemite, report the issue persists under OS X 10.10.3 and the OS X 10.10.4 beta. The issue is said to affect a number of Macs, up to an including late-2011 Macs.
Apple Support Communities, via 9to5Mac:
I am experiencing an issue with FaceTime video calls or voice calls (using FaceTime audio or the iPhone handoff feature) where all I can hear is a strange clicking sound, like static. The other person can hear me fine and I can see them fine if on FaceTime video, but I can’t hear them.
The Apple Support Communities thread, containing 257 posts complaining of the issue, contains various suggested fixes, such as a restart and resetting the Mac’s PRAM, but while that seems to work for a short time, the issue returns.
While the cause for the issue is unknown, some in the thread speculate that Apple broke something in 10.10 when it attempted to make sure iPhone continuity features work only with Macs equipped with Bluetooth LE. Some users report Apple has replaced the logic boards in their Mac at no charge.
