If the titles “Prince of Persia,” “The Oregon Trail,” and “Wolfenstein 3D” bring back great memories of computer gaming in the ’80s and ’90s for you, then The Internet Archive’s latest addition is right up your alley.
The Internet Archive has added over 2,400 MS-DOS games to their collection of classic gaming goodness. All of these classics originally resided on floppy disks, (you’ve heard of those, right?) and ran on MS-DOS machines back in the old days.
Games include such classics as Leisure Suit Larry, the original Sim City, Maniac Mansion, and even the controversial (for the time) Bouncing Babies. The archive offers everything from adventure, to sports, to driving, to arcade, and every kind of game in between.
We worked our way through many of the games, and found that while there are some that don’t work properly, if you’ve got a recent browser on your PC or Mac then you have a good chance of getting your favorite games to work. (Some of the older games were programmed for much slower 286 processors, so unless your name is Barry Allen, you may find them too fast to play. – Ed.)
Information for the games comes from the Moby Games online database, a huge treasure trove of classic gaming information covering almost every game from the 1970s up through today.
