‘Upcycled’: Power Mac G5s Get New Life as Furniture

The smooth aluminum chassis of Apple’s 2003 Power Mac G5 was a widely admired distinctive design. Inspired by this, designer Klaus Geiger decided to “upcycle” these aging relics of the computer world because he says the machines are “simply too good to be disposed of.”

… as a creative who was working with these machines from the beginning to the end, it was impossible for klaus geiger to put them in the garbage. eventually, he decided to give them a second life through a project called ‘benchmarc’.

Geiger crafted a distinctive sitting bench, using two Power Mac G5 towers and a carved wooden plank. Geiger machines the wood to fit in perfectly with the shape of the Power Mac chassis.

Geiger’s inspiration has also led to his crafting of a a movable conference table, file cabinets and more, all using discarded Power Mac machines as the base ingredient.
