The Wall Street Journal reports that Apple’s “iWatch,” reportedly set for a September 9th debut, will boast a curved OLED display, and near field communications (NFC) capabilities. The NFC technology would reportedly be used to support Apple’s much-rumored mobile payment initiative.
WSJ, via MacRumors:
NFC wireless is central to Apple’s plans to incorporate so-called tap-to-pay into its mobile devices, allowing users to pay for goods and services using credit cards stored with iTunes, people close to Apple said.
The report also claims the iWatch will be available in two sizes – which jibes with a previous report from earlier today, and will sport a curved OLED display. The device is also widely expected to include numerous health and fitness sensors.
The WSJ report also repeats previous claims that while the iWatch will be unveiled next week, it won’t hit stores until much later, possibly early 2015.
The “iWatch” is expected to debut at Apple’s September 9th event, alongside the next-generation iPhone’s and possibly a new iPad.
Apple’s event at the Flint Center in Cupertino, CA, will kick off at 10AM Pacific, 1PM Eastern Time. As usual, MacTrast will be covering the event as it happens. Be there, or be square.
