Apple has grabbed Atlas Wearables chief software engineer Alex Hsieh to work on their iWatch project, says a recent update to the developer’s LinkedIn page. Atlas Wearables focuses on devices that can track a wearer’s physical activity.
It seems clear that the Cupertino company has hired Hsieh to work on the firmware for its upcoming iWatch, which is widely expected to be revealed to the public later this year. Perhaps most notably, Hsieh’s work at Atlas included an API that allowed third-party developers to integrate the company’s hardware with their applications, similar to Apple’s new HealthKit framework.
Atlas’s device has not yet hit the market, and while it is available for pre-order, many of the device’s core features were still in development as late as February.
Apple has recently hired quite a few medical, technical, and fashion experts recently, all allegedly to help them craft their much-rumored iWatch. The device itself is expected to be introduced later this year, possibly in multiple models and pricing levels, and will include as many as 10 sensors to collect health and fitness related data from users.
