Apple SVP of Retail Angela Ahrendts made an appearance at the Grand Opening of the company’s newest retail outlet in Tokyo, Japan on Friday. The event marked her first official public appearance as an Apple executive. Ms. Ahrendts posed for photos with Apple lovers who came to the opening.
A long line of folks were queued up to enter the Omotesando Apple Store in Tokyo when its opened on Friday, as passerby peered through the all-glass front of the store, attempting to get a glimpse of the events unfolding inside.
In addition to Ahrendts, Japanese Apple blog Mac Otakara listed other Apple executives in attendance as including Retail Real Estate and Development Vice President Bob Bridger, Worldwide Apple Retail International sales VP Steve Cano and Online Stores VPs Jennifer Bailey and Bob Kupbens.
Continuing a tradition, Apple Store employees handed out commemorative t-shirts, sporting the leafy green Apple logo first seen on the construction barricades during construction of the location.
The building boasts three all-glass walls, and a metal roof with an overhang. The fourth wall, made of concrete, is draped in a “green curtain” of foliage, designed to shield the building from direct sunlight during peak daylight hours, in order to cut down on the energy required to cool the store’s interior.
The interior of the store includes a metal-and-glass spiral staircase leading down to an underground level with extra display floor space, the Genius Bar and accessory racks.
