T-Mobile has backed off a bit on Friday’s announcement about the termination of employer discounts for customers. The company is now saying current customers will be allowed to keep the discount. IN other news: BlackBerry is saying “buh-bye” to T-Mobile.
“Tomorrow we will announce that current [customers] can keep their corp employee discount,” CMO Mike Sievert said in a tweet late Tuesday.
Re/code reports that while current customers can hang on to their highly-prized employer discount, new customers will not have those discounts made available to them.
In other Magenta network news, BlackBerry announced late Tuesday that it was breaking up with T-Mobile, and plans to stop selling its devices through the carrier.
“BlackBerry has had a positive relationship with T-Mobile for many years,” BlackBerry CEO John Chen said in a statement. “Regretfully, at this time, our strategies are not complementary and we must act in the best interest of our BlackBerry customers. We hope to work with T-Mobile again in the future when our business strategies are aligned.”
There have been signs of the couple breaking up in recent weeks, as Chen and T-Mobile CEO John Legere have been engaged in a war of words.
