Proving the old adage (that I just made up), “Frenemies are frenemies, but business is business,” a new rumor out of Korea says Apple is moving the manufacturing of the displays for its iPad mini tablet to frenemy Samsung.
AppleInsider reports that AU Optronics is totally out of the iPad mini supply chain, while Sharp has had its orders curtailed significantly. Korea’s ETNews reports the changes should take place in the second half of 2014.
Samsung will reportedly take over Sharp’s position in the supply chain for the Retina displays used in the second-generation iPad mini. South Korean electronics firm LG, who also manufactures Retina displays for Apple, is believed to remain unaffected by the moves.
