Upcoming App Will Allow Streaming of All 24 Seasons of The Simpsons, But…

Simpsons fans now have a reason to rejoice… Well, maybe. The Fox owned FX network has announced that in August, it will be launching a dedicated app that will allow users to stream all 24 seasons of the long running animated series to their mobile devices. (Woo-Hoo!) But, you’ll only be able to access them if your cable company carries FX’s newest channel, FXX. (DOH!)

9to5Mac:

…the network has officially confirmed that a Simpsons-specific app is in the works and will require an FXNOW account. That means if you want to stream The Simpsons, you’ll have to get your cable through one of the few providers that offer the service (which is reportedly only about half of the cable providers in the U.S.).

The Simpsons episodes will only be available via the app and FXNetworks.com to authenticated subscribers. While this is typical – other network apps such as HBO GO, Watch ABC, and others also require user to be authenticated subscribers – Currently FXNOW has deals with around half of the TV providers in the U.S.

The providers that FXNOW currently has a deal with include:

  • AT&T U-verse
  • Comcast XFINITY
  • Midcontinent Communications
  • Optimum
  • Suddenlink
  • WOW!

While a network spokesperson said additional agreements will be reached later this year, he was unable to give an estimate of how many cable systems would be covered by August.
