Apple recently opened a second AppleCare repairs location in the eastern part of the United States. The new warehouse is located in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. The facility measures just under 200,000 square feet, and has an additional 2,500 square feet available for offices.
Apple will use this facility to conduct repairs and replacements and to manage, package, and ship repaired Apple devices to both customer’s homes and Apple Store Genius Bars across the country. When an Apple customer of a Mac computer, for example, needs aspects of their device replaced and fixed, their product is typically shipped to a similar warehouse in Elk Grove, California…
Apple’s California facility has been Apple’s sole AppleCare repair facility for many years. The new Pennsylvania facility marks Apple’s first major expansion of its repair capabilities, and is also Apple’s first physical AppleCare presence on the east coast of the U.S.
Apple will now ship devices needing repair to the facility closest to the customer’s location. Wait times for repairs should shorten as a result.
Apple has been looking for ways to improve its customer service recently. It launched a revamped AppleCare website with 24/7 chat support in August of this year.
