The co-founder of the torrent sharing service The Pirate Bay, Peter Sunde, has begun teasing his latest project, a truly secure messaging app for mobile devices named “Hemlis.” (“Secret” in Swedish.)
Peter, along with other team members Leif Högberg (@leihog) & Linus Olsson (@bonq), is currently raising money through PayPal and Bitcoin on the Heml.is website and providing those who donate with a certain amount of unlock codes depending on how much they donate.
The app will be available for both iOS and Android, and the app will eventually be offered with free secure messaging for all, as well as in-app purchases to unlock features such as sending images. Users who donate now will unlock the full app with all the extended features.
Hemlis is attempting to be the first app with end-to-end encryption to keep your conversations safe from outsiders. The creators claim that not even they will be able to access conversations, and they will not use advertising, or sell user data to fund the project.
This looks like an interesting project, and we’ll keep you posted as the project nears fruition.
