Apple’s next Vision Pro headset will boast two key advantages over the current model, according to Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman.
Gurman’s remarks came in the latest edition of his Power On newsletter on Sunday. Gurman said Apple is working on a new headset that is both lighter and less expensive than the current Vision Pro, which weighs up to 1.5 pounds and has a base price of $3,499 in the U.S.
Gurman said that Apple is also developing another version of the Vision Pro that can make a wired connection to a Mac, providing a low latency experienced.
“The idea is to create an ultra-low-latency system for streaming a user’s Mac display or for connecting to high-end enterprise applications,” said Gurman. “Some customers have been using the Vision Pro for things like viewing imaging during surgery or for flight simulators. Those are two areas where a user would want the least amount of lag possible — something that can’t be guaranteed by a fully wireless system.”
Gurman did not specify when Apple is planning to release either headset. The current Apple Vision Pro has been available in February 2024.
Gurman also noted that Apple CEO Tim Cook still includes true augmented reality glasses as high among his priorities, but such a product is likely “many years” away.
“Tim cares about nothing else,” Gurman quotes a person with knowledge of the matter as saying. “It’s the only thing he’s really spending his time on from a product development standpoint.”
