Apple released its second iOS 18.4 beta on Monday, and the new beta is once again available for the iPhone 12 lineup, allowing those devices to once again be updated to the beta.
As we reported last week, the first iOS 18.4 and iPadOS 18.4 betas were blocked from installing on any of the iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, or iPhone 12 Pro Max models, along with select older iPad Air and entry-level iPad models.
The first iOS 18.4 beta caused some iPhone 12 models and other affected devices to experience a “boot loop,” rendering the device unusable. There may have also been other issues affecting some of the cellular iPad Air models in particular, rather than the boot loop problem.
The second betas of iOS 18.4 and iPadOS 18.4 are once again available for affected devices.
These devices include the following:
- All iPhone 12 models
- M2 iPad Air models
- iPad Air 4th Gen (Wi-Fi and Cellular)
- iPad 8 (WiFi and Cellular)
Apple had also pulled the first beta of watchOS 11.4 for Apple Watch Series 6 models. The second beta of watchOS 11.4 addresses the issue too.
The second iOS 18.4 beta is also the first iOS beta after the release of the iPhone 16e, so now new iPhone 16e owners can upgrade to Apple’s beta software. The initial iOS 18.4 beta could not be downloaded on the iPhone 16e.
As usual, MacTrast and Apple both warn users to not install any betas or release candidates on their daily driver iPhone or iPad. Instead, you should only install betas on a device set aside for testing purposes.
