Foldable iPhone Display Said to Boast iPad-ish Aspect Ratio

Apple’s much-rumored foldable iPhone (let’s call it the “iPhone Origami,”) will sport a foldable display with a 4:3 aspect ratio, according to a Chinese leaker.

Weibo-based account Digital Chat Station, who earlier leaked the book-style device’s display dimensions, says the foldable iPhone will have a “roughly” 4:3 aspect ratio on the inner display in order to achieve consistency between the internal and external display, as well as to ensure the software ecosystem is comparable to the iPad.

As mentioned before, Apple’s large folding screen also has a customized ratio of about 4:3, the purpose is to make the internal and external screens consistent and the software ecosystem comparable to the iPad.

Apple’s iPad and iPad Pro models have always sported a 4:3 aspect ratio from the OG iPad all the way to the latest-generation iPad Pro. The ratio provides a balanced experience in both portrait and landscape orientation. The 8.3-inch iPad mini is the only iPad model to deviated from the traditional aspect ratio, using an approximate 3:2 ratio.

Digital Chat Station has previously revealed the supposed dimensions of the iPhone Fold, saying sources say the device has a 5.5-inch outer screen and an inner folding 7.8-inch screen. Those dimensions were corroborated by reputable Apple industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who also described the inner screen as “crease-free.”

Kuo says Apple is planning to use liquid metal as a key component of the hinges it will use on its upcoming foldable iPhone.

Kuo has previously said the foldable iPhone may include two rear cameras, a single front-facing camera, and Touch ID integrated into the power button. The device could measure just 4.5mm thick when unfolded, and between 9mm and 9.5mm when closed.

Mass production of the first foldable iPhone is expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026, suggesting a possible late 2026 or early 2027 release. Most estimates put the retail selling price of the iPhone Fold in the $2,000-$2,500 range in the United States.
