Apple’s upcoming iPhone 17 Pro mode will be capable of shooting 8K video, an improvement from the current 4K maximum capture resolution available on the iPhone 16 series, a Chinese leaker has indicated.
The information comes via the Weibo-based account Fixed Focus Digital, said that the iPhone 17 Pro is “something to look forward to,” since 8K video will be “within the user’s grasp.”
While there have been reports that Apple tested 8K video recording on the iPhone 16 Pro models, the capability never made it to the public, likely due to the hardware limitations of the iPhone’s current triple-lens camera setup.
Apple is rumored to be including a 48-megapixel Telephoto camera on the iPhone 17 Pro, which means 8K recording may debut on the device. Apple’s iPhone 17 Pro models are now rumored to feature three 48-megapixel rear cameras, a major jump from the current 12-megapixel Telephoto lens.
Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman in February reported that Apple has plans to heavily promote the iPhone 17 Pro’s improved video recording capabilities when it unveils the device later this year.
