Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman on Sunday posted the latest edition of his Power On newsletter. In it, Gurman said that Apple is in the early stages of development of iPad Pro models powered an M6 chip and an Apple-designed 5G modem, an entry-level iPad 12 with a newer chip, and MacBook Air models with an M5 chip.
Apple is currently targeting 2027 to release the iPad Pro models using its own 5G modem, says Gurman. The modems will likely be Apple’s own internally-developed C2 modem. Current cellular iPad Pro models use Qualcomm modems.
Apple’s first 5G modem, the C1, debuted in the iPhone 16e last month. Apple says its C1 modem is so power efficient that the iPhone 16e boasts the longest battery life of any 6.1-inch iPhone model ever. Apple says the iPhone 16e offers up to 26 hours of battery life for video playback, a four hour increase over the battery life of the standard iPhone 16
While Gurman did not say when the new entry-level iPad and MacBook Air models will launch, but 2026 would be a safe bet.
