USB-C Connector for the iPhone 16e Means Lightning Port No More!

USB-C Connector for the iPhone 16e Means Lightning Port No More!

The launch of the new iPhone 16e on Wednesday, long with Apple discontinuing the iPhone 14, ‌iPhone‌ 14 Plus, and iPhone SE, means there are no longer any iPhones being sold with a Lightning port. All of the iPhone models now offer USB-C connectivity.

The new 16e is equipped with a USB-C port, as do are the iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 models in the lineup. Apple began transitioning from Lightning to USB-C with the ‌iPhone 15‌ launch in 2023, meaning the company has completed the move to USB-C in under two years.

The entire iPad lineup has also been transitioned to USB-C, meaning there are no iPhone, iPad, or Mac models that use Lightning, although Apple still sells some accessories, like the original Apple Pencil and cables with Lightning connectors.

We will likely see Apple offer a small selection of Lightning-based accessories for a few years to come, but those will eventually also be phased out.
