There have been multiple rumors that Apple’s upcoming iPhone 17 Pro models will be equipped with 12GB of RAM, up from the 8GB RAM in the iPhone 16 Pro. Now comes another party heard from, as Jeff Pu of GFHK Tech Research backs up previous rumors.
According to the latest note from the analyst shared by 9to5Mac, the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max will both feature 12GB of RAM that will offer improved performance for the iPhone’s AI capabilities.
“Meanwhile iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max are expected to migrate to LPDDR5 12GB,” Pu said in the note.” This transition alone will contribute to a 3.5% YoY increase in smartphone DRAM content across an estimated 100 million new iPhone units.”
This marks the third time that Pu has predicted that we’ll see increased memory for Apple’s forthcoming “Pro” devices. Pu first said it back in May 2024. Then in August, Apple industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claimed that the increased memory would be limited to use in the iPhone 17 Pro Max.
However, in October of that year, Pu reiterated his original claim, saying the increase in memory would offer improved multitasking and Apple Intelligence performance.
In addition to a possible increase in memory, several other big changes are expected for the iPhone 17 Pro models. The iPhone 17 Pro will boast three rear cameras arranged in a familiar triangular layout, but housed in an all-new rectangular camera bar with rounded corners upcoming.
The handsets are also said to sport an aluminum frame, replacing the current titanium frame, a narrower Dynamic Island, an in-house developed WiFi 7 chip, and other features.
Apple’s iPhone 17 lineup is expected to debut sometime around mid-September.
