Apple Releases New Firmware For AirPods Max With Lightning Port

Apple today released new firmware for its AirPods Max With Lightning Port headphones. The ‌new firmware has a build number of 6F25, up from the previous 6F21, released in October 2024. Please take note that this software release is only compatible with the original version of the AirPods Max, which featured a Lightning port, not the current USB-C compatible model.

Apple didn’t list the exact contents of the 6F25 firmware update, although it likely brings bug fixes and quality-of-life improvements.

While Apple doesn’t offer a way to manually upgrade AirPods firmware, but it is generally installed over-the-air when the AirPods are in a charging case and connected via Bluetooth to an iOS device or Mac.

If your AirPods Max are connected them to a power source, and are paired to an iPhone or iPad, they should update after a short period of time.
