Foldable iPhones were supposed to be the next big thing, with Apple being widely criticized for not releasing one alongside those being released by its competitors. However, customer interest in foldable smartphones is waning, although that could all change if and when Apple releases a foldable iPhone, according to display analyst Ross Young.
Young’s comments came in a report on the current foldable smartphone market. In the report, he says that Apple is expected to “enter the foldable market” in the second half of 2026. The Cupertino company’s “dominant position in flagship smartphones” could potentially lead to significant growth for the foldable market in 2026, possibly leading to a record year for sales of the devices.
Young says he anticipates a foldable phone market growth rate of over 30% in 2026, with a continued growth rate of 20% in 2027 and 2028.
Rumors about a foldable iPhone have floated around the rumor bowl for quite a few years, and some analysts expect to see Apple unveil a foldable iPhone in September 2026.
Rumors about the device’s size range between 7.9 and 8.3 inches in size, and it may sport a “clamshell” design like Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip device.
