WhatsApp Adds Voice Message Transcript Feature

Popular Meta-owned messaging app WhatsApp on Thursday announced a new transcription feature to provide users with transcripts of voice messages they receive on the service.

For those moments we’re excited to introduce voice message transcripts. Voice messages can be transcribed into text to help you keep up with conversations no matter what you’re doing.

Transcripts are generated on your device so that no one else, not even WhatsApp, can hear or read your personal messages.

To enable voice message transcripts, go to “Settings” -> “Chats” -> “Voice Message Transcripts” to toggle transcriptions on and off and to select a preferred transcript language. A voice message can be transcribed by long pressing on it and tapping on “transcribe.”

Transcripts are rolling out globally over the coming weeks with a few select languages will be available at first, including English, Portuguese, Spanish, and Russian, but more will be added in the coming months. You can learn more about how the feature and which languages are currently supported by clicking here.
