Apple may not unveil a second-generation Vision Pro headset powered by an M5 chip until as late as 2026, according to Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman. His comments come in the latest edition of his popular “Power On” newsletter.
Gurman said that the second-generation Vision Pro headset will focus on internal changes such as an upgrade to the as-yet-unannounced M5 chip. He says the device is now in active development and expects it to arrive “between the fall of 2025 and spring of 2026.”
Gurman’s comments are similar to those made earlier this month byApple supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who said that Apple has plans to release an updated Vision Pro with the M5 chip and Apple Intelligence support in 2025.
Apple’s first-generation Vision Pro headset, on store shelves now, is powered by Apple’s M2 chip, which fists launched in 2022. If the launch of the second-generation headset is delayed until 2026, it could possibly use the “M6” chip, which would likely be ready sometime around then.
Gurman also noted that Apple has enlisted employees to take a close look at the smart glasses market and determine how customers feel about it. Apple could be working to develop a competitor to smart glasses from Snapchat Spectacles and Meta Ray-Bans, which allow users to record video, make phone calls, and listen to music. Gurman suggests that Apple’s smart glasses could end up being a version of its AirPods in a smart glasses form factor.
