New Firmware Updates Now Available for AirPods Pro 2 and AirPods 4

Apple today released new firmware for its AirPods Pro 2 and AirPods 4 wireless earbuds. The ‌new AirPods Pro 2 firmware has a build number of 7B20, while the new AirPods 4 firmware has a build number of 7B21. The AirPods Pro 2 firmware is for both Lightning and USB-C charging cases.

Apple says firmware versions 7B20 and 7B21 include “bug fixes and other improvements.” No further details were provided.

While Apple doesn’t offer a way to manually upgrade AirPods firmware, but it is generally installed over-the-air when the AirPods are in a charging case and connected via Bluetooth to an iOS device or Mac.

If you place the AirPods Pro 2  or AirPods 4 in their case, connect them to a power source, and then pair them to an iPhone or iPad, they should update after a short period of time.

Here’s how to check the firmware version of your AirPods Pro 2  or AirPods 4 earbuds:

  1. Make sure your AirPods are connected to your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Launch the Settings app on your iPhone or ‌iPad‌.

  4. Tap “About.”
  5. Scroll down to ‌“AirPods,” and tap that.
  6. Read the number next to “Firmware Version.”
