Happy 5th Birthday to Apple TV+

Five years ago today, the Apple TV+ streaming service began operations. The streaming service was first unveiled alongside several other new Apple services, including the Apple Card, Apple News+, and Apple Arcade, at March 2019 Apple event.

Apple TV‌+ started a bit slow from the starting gate, having only a modest library of original content they emphasize quantity over quality. Apple TV+ has since built an impressive library of original productions, as well as adding movies from various movie studios’ libraries.

At launch, the platform offered titles like “For All Mankind,” “The Morning Show,” “See,”and “Dickinson.” In the years since, Apple has added popular and critically acclaimed shows, including “Ted Lasso,” “Severance,” and “Foundation.” The service also children’s programming, documentaries, and feature films. ‌Apple TV‌+ has received several Academy Award, Emmy, and Golden Globe nominations and awards.

Apple has since added Major League Baseball Friday Night doubleheaders and Major League Soccer regular season games to its roster.

Apple TV‌+ is available several devices and platforms, ‌both made by Apple and other companies. Apple TV+ is available by itself for $9.99 per month, and as a part of its “Apple One” subscription bundles.
