Apple on Tuesday announced that it will make a $5 donation to the The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria for every purchase made using Apple Pay on Apple.com, through the Apple Store app, or at an Apple Store. The campaign will run from November 29 through December 8. Apple’s donation this year will be capped at $3 million.
Apple says its donation to the organization will continue to “help fund critical health programs that save lives.” This will be the 18th year in which Apple has supported The Global Fund.
The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria combats several diseases – including malaria, HIV/AIDS, and tuberculosis – throughout the developing world. The fund was established in 2002, and it has been credited with saving 65 million lives since then.
Apple runs this donation campaign annually in honor of World AIDS Day, which is on December 1 each year.
Apple also supports The Global Fund via its partnership with the (RED) brand, co-founded by U2 singer Bono. Apple sells some of its products in a (PRODUCT)RED color option, with a portion of the proceeds from each one of these products sold by Apple going to The Global Fund. Apple said it has raised more than $250 million to date.
