Apple has reached an agreement to acquire image editing company Pixelmator, the developers of popular photo editing apps Pixelmator Pro, Pixelmator for iOS, and Photomator. Pixelmator made the surprise announcement on Friday. The acquisition is subject to regulatory approval.
Today we have some important news to share: the Pixelmator Team plans to join Apple.
We’ve been inspired by Apple since day one, crafting our products with the same razor-sharp focus on design, ease of use, and performance. And looking back, it’s crazy what a small group of dedicated people have been able to achieve over the years from all the way in Vilnius, Lithuania. Now, we’ll have the ability to reach an even wider audience and make an even bigger impact on the lives of creative people around the world.
Pixelmator says that there will be no immediate changes to the Pixelmator Pro, Pixelmator for iOS, and Photomator apps, but to “stay tuned for exciting updates to come.”
Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. Hopefully, Apple will continue to offer the Pixelmator apps in the future and isn’t simply buying the company for their technology to use in future Apple-developed apps.
I personally have been a fan of the powerful Pixelmator Pro app for the Mac for several years and it is my go to image editing app for all of my projects, both personal and professional. Hopefully, we may see Pixelmator Pro make the move to the iPad. The app would make a welcome addition to the iPad image editing app lineup.
