Vision Pro users will soon be able to enjoy spatial photos and videos in Safari, according to a report from PetaPixel. The information was shared during the publication’s interview with Apple product manager Della Huff and designer Billy Sorrentino.
Later this year, web developers will be able to add spatial photos and videos to their websites, which will be viewable in 3D on the Vision Pro. Currently, the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, as well as all four iPhone 16 models and the Vision Pro itself are capable of capturing spatial photos and videos.
Currently, spatial photos and videos can only be viewed on Vision Pro when they’re sent to you directly via Messages, email, or AirDrop, making it difficult to view content from other users. By adding browser support for spatial videos and photos, iPhone users will be able to upload their spatial content to websites where Vision Pro users will be able to view it in 3D.
Viewers on devices other than the Vision Pro will see the spatial content as standard two dimensional media. “Once you embedded spatial content, folks who are on Vision Pro are getting spatial and folks who are just looking at it on their laptop see it in two dimensions,” Sorrentino told PetaPixel.
During the interview, a timeframe for the addition of spatial photo and video support to Safari was not mentioned, but it could arrive before the end of the year in a visionOS 2.2 update.
