More Vehicles to Receive Support for Apple’s Digital Car Key Feature

Apple will soon add support for digital car keys in the Wallet app for select Volvo, Polestar, and Audi vehicles. The new additions were revealed in code changes discovered in the Apple Wallet backend by MacRumors.

The car keys feature allows drivers with an iPhone or Apple Watch with NFC capabilities to unlock, lock, or start a vehicle through the Wallet app by holding the device near a compatible vehicle’s NFC reader. It should be noted that car key functionality can vary by manufacturer and model.

Apple debuted digital car key support in 2022 and the first car makers to implement support for the feature included BMW, BYD, Hyundai/Genesis/Kia, Lotus, Mercedes-Benz, and RAM. A full list of vehicles offering car key support is available on Apple’s CarPlay model availability web page.
