Some iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max users are reporting that their devices are randomly freezing and rebooting. The complaints are being found on Reddit, the MacRumors forums, and the Apple Support Communities.
There have been ongoing complaints about the issue since the iPhone 16 lineup first launched in September. Users report that the issue continues to afflict iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max users, even after installing the iOS 18.0.1 and iOS 18.1 updates.
The issue appears to happen randomly. The iPhone will with be slow to respond to touch input, eventually doing a quick restart. Some users also report their iPhone restarting unexpectedly when in standby mode.
Some users say they contacted Apple to get replacements handsets but have had the issue reoccur after the replacement. Almost all of the complaints are related to the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, so it appears the issue only affects those devices.
While most users report the issue appears sporadically, others say they are seeing the issue happen 10 to 20 crashes per day. Some users do report doing a fresh install and not restoring the device from an iCloud Backup seems to fix the issue, so the bug could be related to iCloud.
We’ll keep you posted.
