Apple on Thursday released iPadOS 18.0.1 for the iPad, and the update finally allows users of the M4 iPad Pro to install iPadOS 18 on their tablets for the first time since the iPadOS 18 update was pulled for those devices after users found that the update “bricked” their devices, leaving them unusable.
When Apple released iPadOS 18 in September, it was discovered that the update rendered some M4 iPad Pro devices unusable, so Apple pulled the update for those devices the day following its initial release.
To check that the update is available and to install it, do the following: Go to “Settings” -> “General” -> “Software Update.” The iPadOS 18.0.1 update is available for compatible iPad models.
Apple said that it had removed the update to fix a problem that was affecting a small number of users.
“We have temporarily removed the iPadOS 18 update for M4 iPad Pro models as we work to resolve an issue that is impacting a small number of devices.”
iPadOS 18.0.1 addresses the issue and the update should now be safe to install on an M4 iPad Pro. The update also includes bug fixes for all iPads:
– Messages may unexpectedly quit when replying to a message with a shared Apple Watch face
– Performance may be impacted due to an issue with memory allocation on some iPad models.
