Apple today seeded the release candidate of its upcoming watchOS 11.1 update to developers and public beta testers for final testing ahead of the update’s release to the public. The release candidate comes close to one week after the release of the fifth beta.
To install the watchOS 11.1 release candidate, developers should open the Apple Watch app, go to the Software Update section under “General” in Settings, and toggle on the watchOS 11 Developer Beta. An Apple ID linked to a developer account is required.
After that, The watchOS 11.1 release candidate can be installed via the Watch app on the device’s attached iPhone. Go to “General” -> “Software Update” to install the RC. The Watch should have at least 50% battery life, be connected to a charger, and be within range of the iPhone.
It’s not yet clear what new features are included in the watchOS 11.1 update at this time. However, Apple’s release notes do indicate that the release includes a fix for an issue that could cause problems writing breathing disturbance data to the Health app.
watchOS 11.1 is expected to be released alongside iOS 18.1 next Monday.
MacTrast and Apple both warn users to not install any betas or release candidates on their daily driver Apple Watch, especially early versions of new operating systems. Instead, only install betas on a device set aside for testing purposes.
