Apple’s redesigned Mac mini will lack USB-A ports, according to Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman. Apple’s current M2-powered Mac mini boasts two USB-C ports and two USB-A ports, while the M2 Pro Mac mini sports four USB-C ports and two USB-A ports.
Gurman‘s comments came in his latest “Power On” newsletter, Gurman says the new M4 Pro-powered Mac mini will sport a total of five USB-C ports, but no USB-A ports. Three of the USB-C ports will be located on the back, with two other USB-C ports on the front of the machine, similar to the Mac Studio. The new Mac mini will continue to offer ethernet, HDMI, and 3.5mm audio ports. The power supply will likely continue to be internal.
Gurman in August said the new Mac mini will boast its first major redesign since 2010, which will make it the smallest desktop computer ever offered by Apple. He says the new Mac mini will be close to the size of an Apple TV, although it may be slightly taller than the current model, which measures 1.4 inches “tall.” The mini will continue to sport an aluminum shell. Those working on the new mini are said to refer to it as “essentially an iPad Pro in a small box.”
Gurman says Apple has tested Mac mini models. There will be two versions of the new Mac mini, one powered by an M4 chip and a second one boasting an M4 Pro chip. Suppliers are expected to begin shipping the M4 model this month for a release a bit later this year, while the M4 Pro model won’t be ready for prime time until October.
