Apple will likely announce new Mac models with M4-series chips in November, claims a new report by MacRumors. The publication says it received this information from a “reliable source familiar with the matter.”
MacRumors says its source tells it that Apple will release new Mac models in November 2024. New Macs are traditionally unveiled toward the end of the year, this is the first time a specific month has been mentioned in reference to the M4 Macs.
A November release date for the new M4-powered Macs means we could see Apple debuting the new Macs via an October event or press release. Apple last year held its “Scary Fast” Mac event on Monday, October 30, where it unveiled its new M3 MacBook Pro and iMac models. The new Macs then launched on Tuesday, November 7, so we could see a similar timeline for this years M4 Macs.
In August, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman said Apple is planning to release refreshed MacBook Pro, Mac mini, and iMac models with M4 chips this year, and we could see the first of the new models as soon as October.
Gurman said that developer logs revealed that the four machines are powered by base-level M4 chips. Three of the Macs boast a 10-core CPU and 10-core GPU. The fourth machine reportedly is equipped with an 8-core CPU and an 8-core GPU, which is not an M4 configuration that has been used so far. All four of the M4 Macs will boast 16GB or 32GB of Unified Memory.
The M4 used in the 256GB and 512GB iPad Pro models has a 9-core CPU and 10-core GPU, while the chip used in the 1TB and 2TB models has a 10-core CPU and 10-core GPU. The chip in the high-end 1TB and 2TB models is the same one that will be used in some of the Mac models.
