iPhone 16 Lineup Battery Life Increased 1+ Hour, MagSafe Charging Now Capable of Faster 25W

Apple debuted its new iPhone 16 lineup on Monday, and it revealed that all four new iPhone 16 models have improved battery life, gaining at least one hour of battery life more than last year’s iPhone 15 lineup.

Streaming video can now be played back for two to four hours longer, depending on the device. The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max also offer longer playback of audio.

On Apple’s product pages, the following battery life is listed for iPhone 16 models:

• iPhone 16 – 22 hours video playback, 18 hours streaming video, 80 hours audio.
• iPhone 16 Plus – 27 hours video playback, 24 hours streaming video, 100 hours audio.
• iPhone 16 Pro – 27 hours video playback, 22 hours streaming video, 85 hours audio.
• iPhone 16 Pro Max – 33 hours video playback, 29 hours streaming video, 105 hours audio.

They can be compared to last year’s iPhone 15 lineup:

• iPhone 15 – 20 hours video playback, 16 hours streaming video, 80 hours audio.
• iPhone 15 Plus – 26 hours video playback, 20 hours streaming video, 100 hours audio.
• iPhone 15 Pro – 26 hours video playback, 20 hours streaming video, 75 hours audio.
• iPhone 15 Pro Max – 29 hours video playback, 25 hours streaming video, 95 hours audio.

Faster 25W MagSafe Charging

In addition to extended battery life. the new iPhone 16 lineup will also charge faster, offering support for faster 25W MagSafe charging when charged with one of Apple’s new ‌MagSafe‌ chargers and a 30W or higher power adapter. iPhone 16‌ users will be able to grab a 50% charge for their iPhone 16 in approximately 30 minutes.

Qi2 charging is still supported, although Qi2 is limited to a slower 15W charging rate. Qi2 is a open standard that doesn’t require accessory makers to pay a licensing fee like Apple requires for MagSafe. However, charger manufacturers that wish to offer the faster MagSafe charging rate will be required to use MagSafe and pay the licensing fee.

Customers will need to purchase an updated charger to reach the new MagSafe charging speeds.Apple has released a new MagSafe charger, capable of the faster charging speeds. The new charger will still charge older MagSafe-capable iPhone models, although it will be at the slower 15W charging rate.
