Code in Apple Software Reveals New Mac Mini Boasting 5 USB-C Ports on the Way

A code change within Apple software seemingly leaked that a next-generation Mac mini with five USB-C ports, according to a MacRumors article. The exact string is “Apple silicon Mac mini (5 Port).”

The newly discovered code refers to an unreleased Mac mini model with an Apple silicon chip and five ports. The new report jibes with a previous report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman that said the next Mac mini will be equipped with five USB-C ports.

Gurman said two of the ports will be located on the front of the new Mac mini. Technically speaking, at least some of these ports will likely be Thunderbolt 4 ports, which use the USB-C connector design.

Gurman said the new ‌M4 Pro-powered Mac mini‌ will sport a total of five USB-C ports, but no USB-A ports. Three of the USB-C ports will be located on the back, with two other USB-C ports on the front of the machine, similar to the Mac Studio. The new Mac mini will continue to offer ethernet, HDMI, and 3.5mm audio ports. The power supply will likely continue to be internal.

The current Mac mini was released in January 2023 and boasts four Thunderbolt 4 ports and two USB-A ports, as well as an HDMI port, Gigabit Ethernet port, and a headphone jack.

The next Mac mini is expected to debut at an Apple event in October, alongside other M4 Macs and a new iPad mini.
