Apple Significantly Increasing Prices on Out-of-Warranty iPhone Battery Replacements

Apple is jacking up the price for out-of-warranty battery replacements for iPhone 16 Pro handsets.

The cost of an out-of-warranty battery replacement for the two larger models of the latest iPhone has been increased to $119, up from the $99 charged for similar repairs for the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max. The cost for the regular iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus remains $99.

The last time Apple increased the cost of “after AppleCare” battery replacements with the iPhone 14 models in 2022, when prices increased from $69 to $99.

New iPhones include at least one year of AppleCare warranty, so new buyers won’t feel the price increase anytime soon. Extended AppleCare+ warranties can be purchased to cover the cost of most repairs for three years or longer.

The batteries powering the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max models are larger and reportedly have a new metal shell to help improve heat dissipation. This changes may require extra labor to replace those batteries, which could account for the replacement cost increase, as first reported by MacRumors.

The fee for battery replacement for older out-of-warranty iPhones varies by model. iPhone 15 and iPhone 14 can have batteries replaced for $99, while most older models will see charges of $89, excepting the iPhone SE and iPhone 8, which still have a $69 battery replacement fee.
