Following Friday’s release of the iPhone 16 lineup, Apple has published full repair manuals for the iPhone 16, the iPhone 16 Plus, the iPhone 16 Pro, and the iPhone 16 Pro Max.
The repair manuals provide full instructions for replacing genuine Apple parts in all of the models in the iPhone 16 models, to provide information or “individual technicians” that have the “knowledge, experience, and tools” that are necessary to repair the electronic devices.
Apple also provides support documents on the tools that are required for various repairs, and while the iPhone 16 tools haven’t yet been made available on Apple’s Self Service Repair website, they’ll likely be available soon.
Apple has made the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus easier to repair when compared to previous iPhone models. The new handsets have an easier electric battery removal process and Apple list the removal steps in this separate support document. Apple’s instructions include how to use a 9-volt battery and 9-volt battery clips can be applied to the iPhone 16 battery to remove the adhesive that holds the battery in place.
Unfortunately for those looking to repair the battery in the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, Apple is still using standard adhesive tabs that need to be carefully pulled to release the battery.
Apple’s other changes to improve the repairability of iPhone 16 models include enabling on-device configuration for the Face ID camera, allowing LiDAR Scanner repair, and offering support for swapping the TrueDepth camera modules between iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro models.
