Anker Recalling Two MagSafe-Compatible Power Banks Over Fire Risk

Anker Recalling Two MagSafe-Compatible Power Banks Over Fire Risk

If you use Anker made MagSafe chargers, you’ll be interested to know that the accessory maker has recalled three of its charger-related products, including two MagSafe-compatible models, due to a potential fire hazard.

TheĀ notice, which Anker posted to its website, alerts users that the Anker 334 MagGo Battery (PowerCore 10K), the Anker Power Bank, and Anker MagGo Power Bank, are being recalled.

Anker says that it has discovered that a number of the lithium-ion batteries used in the powerbanks could overheat, which may lead to melting components, smoke, and even fire.

We have discovered that some of the lithium-ion batteries used in our Anker 334 MagGo Battery (PowerCore 10K), Anker Power Bank and Anker MagGo Power Bank may pose a fire risk due to a manufacturing defect. The lithium-ion battery in the affected powerbanks can overheat, potentially causing melting of plastic components, smoke and fire hazards.

Although only a small number of batteries (a batch used in the products from January 3, 2024, to September 17, 2024) may be affected by this issue, out of an abundance of caution, we are reaching out to all customers to begin a Recall program.

According to the notice, the affected model numbers A1642, A1647, and A1652. Users of the devices should access the Anker recall page and check to determine if their battery’s serial number indicates that it is one of the units with a battery from the batch.

You can verify the model of your Anker Power Bank by looking at the bottom of it. If the accessory’s serial number matches, users are asked to immediately stop using the power bank and to fill out the product recall form for a replacement.

Users are asked not to return the device to Anker. Instead, the faulty device should be disposed of responsibly, although not through standard recycling or trash systems.
