Apple has released new firmware for its Beats Studio Pro over-ear headphones. The new firmware brings multi-user audio sharing to the more affordable AirPods Max alternative.
Audio sharing is one of the features present in Apple’s H-series chips, which can be found in all AirPods products. However, Beats Studio Pro doesn’t use the same chip used in the AirPods lineup. Instead, it uses a custom-designed Beats processor that offers better compatibility with Android devices, as Beats are popular among Android users.
Audio sharing allows multiple users to share a single audio stream across multiple pairs of headphones. The feature allows connecting two sets of headphones to an Apple TV or iPad, for example.
The new firmware allows Beats Studio Pro users to share an audio stream with other Beats Studio Pro, AirPods products, or other devices that support Apple’s audio-sharing feature.
Audio sharing can be initiated from the AirPlay audio panel that’s accessible through Control Center or from the Lock Screen when audio’s playing. Apple offers a step-by-step walkthrough.
The new firmware is version 2C301. While there is no way to manually force an update for the Beats software, the firmware is usually installed over the air when the earbuds are connected to an iOS device. You can check your current firmware by opening “Settings” -> “Bluetooth” and tapping the Info button next to the Beats Studio Pro menu item.
