Apple’s New AirPods Pro 2 Beta Firmware Adds Support for iOS 18 Features

Apple has released new firmware for both the Lightning and USB-C versions of the AirPods Pro 2. The new firmware is version 7A5290a, up from 7A5266c, and it is available only to developers at the current time.

Today’s beta firmware release is the fourth one Apple has released since announcing new AirPods Pro 2 features at WWDC24 in June and includes several new features for the AirPods Pro 2 that will come with iOS 18.

Apple’s head gestures feature allows users to control Siri on AirPods Pro with a nod or a share of the head. Phone calls can be answered by nodding your head to accept the call or shaking your head if you don’t want to answer it. These interactions can also be used to respond to incoming messages, calls, and notifications.

Voice Isolation for the ‌AirPods Pro‌ cuts down on loud background sounds to make you easier to hear, and a new Personalized Spatial Audio feature is specific to gaming.

The new firmware requires a device running ‌iOS 18‌ to install, and the firmware won’t be available to the public until this fall.
