Apple to Require Identity Verification for $500+ Apple Cash Transfers As Of October 4

Apple to Require Identity Verification for $500+ Apple Cash Transfers As Of October 4

Apple is now sending out emails to its customers, telling them that changes are on the way to the Apple Cash Terms and Conditions.

Apple’s new Tap to Cash feature is a new feature in its upcoming iOS 18 and watchOS 11 operating systems, which will be released to the public later this year. The new feature allows Apple Cash users to transfer funds in person from their iPhone or Apple Watch to another iPhone or Apple Watch. Apple is making changes to its Apple Cash identity verification rules.

Starting October 4, iPhone and Apple Watch users will need to verify their identity to send more than a total of $500 in a peer-to-peer transfer. Apple will require the verification for fund transfers from a credit card or debit card in the Wallet app or from the user’s Apple Cash balance. Prior transactions count toward the $500 identity verification trigger.

An Apple support document says users will also be required to verify their identity to receive or add $500 or more in total.

The support document explains how to verify your identification:

How to verify your identity for Apple Cash

  1. Go to your card info:

    • iPhone: Open the Wallet app, tap your Apple Cash card, tap the More button, then tap Card Details.

    • iPad: Open the Settings app, tap Wallet & Apple Pay, then tap your Apple Cash card.

    • Apple Watch: Open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone, tap Wallet & Apple Pay, then tap your Apple Cash card.

  2. Tap Verify Identity.

  3. Follow the onscreen steps. When capturing your driver license or state ID card, use these tips:

    • Place your card on a dark background.

    • Capture all four corners of your card.

    • Make sure that there’s nothing between your device’s camera and the card that would obscure it.

The first time that you verify your identity, you might be asked for this information:

  • Your full name

  • Your Social Security number

  • Your date of birth

  • Your home address2

  • Answers to questions regarding your personal history

  • An image of your valid driver license or state ID card

To use all the features of Apple Cash3 you must verify your identity.

If you enter the wrong information, try to verify your identity again. If you don’t see the option to verify your identity, contact Apple Support.

Tap to Cash is designed for users to perform private in-person transactions when exchanging Apple Cash.

Apple also says the Vision Pro is also being added as a supported device for Apple Cash. The same weekly peer-to-peer transfer limits will apply, and users will be allowed to send or receive a maximum of $10,000 within 7 days.
