Apple to Assemble iPhone 16 Pro Models in India for the First Time

Apple is assembling its iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max handsets in India for the first time this year. The move is part of the Cupertino firm’s moves to diversify production of its devices beyond China, according to a Bloomberg report.

Apple has been working toward producing its high-end iPhone Pro models in India for the last few years, and this year is the first time the company will assemble the ‌iPhone 16 Pro‌ and ‌iPhone 16 Pro‌ Max models in the country.

Apple will start local assembly for both the Indian market and exports shortly after the iPhone Pro 16’s launch in mid-September, once the new product introduction (NPI) process is complete.

The report says a confidential source has disclosed that Foxconn has begun training thousands of workers at its factory in southern Tamil Nadu state as it rushes to produce the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max as close to the global debut as possible.

Previously, Apple had India-made iPhone 15 models ready on launch day, with iPhone 15‌ Plus models made in the country becoming available soon after.
