Apple in late July rolled out Apple Maps on the web in a public beta capacity. At that time, the Apple Maps site worked only in Safari and Chrome on Mac and iPad, as well as Chrome and Edge on Windows PCs. Apple has now updated the Maps site to support Edge on the Mac, as well as Firefox on the Mac, iPad, and Windows.
Previously, if you visited the Apple Maps site you’d see an error message pop up telling you that the Firefox browser was not supported. However, as of Thursday, Apple’s support page for the web-based Maps feature now lists the following compatible browsers:
Depending on the device you use, Maps on the web works best on the latest versions of these browsers.
On your Mac or iPad
Safari
Edge
Chrome
Firefox
On your Windows PC
Edge
Chrome
Firefox
Availability varies depending on region. To start, Maps on the web is available only in English. Maps on the web will be available for additional browsers, platforms, and languages soon.
Apple Maps users will find that Apple Maps on the web works just like the familiar Apple Maps app, allowing users to get driving and walking directions, find great places and useful information including photos, hours, ratings, and reviews; take actions like ordering food directly from the Maps place card; and browse curated Guides about local eateries, shops, and attractions. Apple says that additional options like Look Around will be introduced in the coming months.
Apple Maps on the Web is currently available in English, and Apple plans to add support for additional languages, browsers, and platforms in the future.
