Apple’s Tetraprism 5x optical zoom lens, used in the iPhone 15 Pro Max, will be used in additional models of the iPhone 16 lineup, according to a report seemingly confirming more orders for the component.
The publication says its industry sources tell it that Apple is preparing to expand the use of Tetraprism lenses to more iPhone models this time around. Apple is also expected to expand its supplier range, adding Genius Electronic Optical alongside existing lens supplier Largan Precision for the iPhone 16.
There have been other rumors that claim the Pro and Pro Max models will also boast an extra 48-megapixel rear camera sensor, replacing the 12-megapixel sensor on the ultra-wide angle camera. There have also been mentions of thinner lenses to reduce device weight and lessen the camera bump, as well as mentions of new lens coatings to reduce lens flare.
As usual, all reports like these would be taken with a grain of your favorite salt-free seasoning, as nothing will be set in stone until the new iPhone 16 lineup is unveiled in September.
