Epic Games says it has submitted the Epic Games Store to Apple for notarization under Apple’s alternative app marketplace policy in the European Union.
Status update on our mobile plans:
DONE: Submitted the Epic Games Store and Fortnite to Apple for their required notarization process. IN
PROGRESS: Launch! Targeting the next couple months for the store and Fortnite on iOS in the EU.
Bring our games to other mobile app stores. We want to talk with all stores that offer great terms to all developers.
Popular game Fortnite will be an offering in the new EU Epic Games App Store, which means iPhone users in the EU will be able to install and play the game without using a cloud gaming service. Epic said it was “targeting the next couple months for the store and Fortnite on iOS in the EU.” The company is expected to release an iPad version of Fortnite later this year.
Fortnite was removed from the Apple App Store several years back, thanks to a legal dispute between Apple and Epic. Epic announced plans to return the game to the App Store following Apple’s moves to allow iPhone users in the EU to download apps from alternative app marketplaces rather than the App Store, as well as directly from developer websites.
Apple is charging a 0.50 euro Core Technology Fee per year for apps installed outside of the App Store, but there are no App Store commissions or in-app fees.
