Apple to Manufacture iPhone Pro & Pro Max Models in India for First Time Ever

Apple to Manufacture iPhone Pro & Pro Max Models in India for First Time Ever

Apple will soon be assembling more of its iPhone lineup in India in 2024, preparing to make Pro and Pro Max versions of its iPhone in India for the first time ever, according to a report by Money Control.

While Apple has been assembling iPhones in India, it has not manufactured any Pro or Pro Max-level models in the country. Money Control says that restriction is coming to an end and the Cupertino company will soon be assembling the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max in the Asian country.

One of the publication’s sources told it that Apple is seeking to “deepen its manufacturing capabilities with partners in India,” and the company has been planning to move Pro model production to India for “the last couple of years.”

Apple will also “make sure the India-assembled iPhone 16 Pro models are available in the country after the launch,” the source told the publication.

Foxconn will soon kick off its “new product introduction” (NPI) process for the iPhone 16 Pro models at its facility in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu, according to the report. Apple is also rumored to be readying to assemble AirPods in India starting later this year.

Unfortunately, the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max production lines won’t be ready in time for the new iPhones’ launch in September. However, iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max models will hit shelves before Apple’s fiscal year ends.

Apple is moving some of its iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max manufacturing to India and away from China, as the company is said to be planning to manufacture 25% of all of its iPhones in India over the next few years. It currently manufactures 14% of its iPhones in the country.

Apple’s Indian revenue rose 33% for the 12 months through March, with revenue increasing from $6 billion to $8 billion.
