Will Your Mac Be Able to Run macOS Sequoia?

Apple on Monday previewed macOS Sequoia, the upcoming version of its Mac operating system. The new version of macOS will bring several new features, including iPhone Mirroring, which enables full access to and control of an iPhone directly from a Mac, new features for the Safari browser, a new Passwords app, gaming advances, and more.

Perhaps most importantly, macOS Sequoia debuts Apple Intelligence, the personal artificial intelligence system debuting this year on Mac, iPhone, and iPad.

Apple Intelligence will be included in iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia and “combines the power of generative models with personal context to deliver intelligence that’s incredibly useful and relevant.” Apple Intelligence can create language and images, take action across apps, and draw from personal context to simplify and accelerate everyday tasks.

But, will your current Mac be able to handle all of macOS Sequoia’s new features? Will it be able to run macOS Sequoia at all?

The following Mac models will be compatible with macOS Sequoia:

  • iMac 2019 and later
  • Mac Pro 2019 and later
  • iMac Pro 2017
  • Mac Studio 2022 and later
  • MacBook Air 2018 and later
  • Mac mini 2018 and later
  • MacBook Pro 2018 and later

As you can see, the end of Intel Mac support is in sight, as macOS Sequoia is only compatible with a few of the latest Intel-powered models, such as the 2019 MacBook Pro and the 2019 Mac Pro. In addition to that, there are several exclusive features that only Apple Silicon Macs can run, most notably, Apple Intelligence features, which require Apple Silicon to operate.
