Will Your iPhone Be Able to Run iOS 18?

Apple on Monday previewed iOS 18, the upcoming major update to Apple’s iPhone operating system. The upcoming release brings the largest redesign of the Photos app, messaging via satellite, new mailbox management features for the Mail app, and much, much more. iPhone users will be able to rearrange apps and widgets in any open space on the iOS 18 Home Screen, customize the buttons that appear on the Lock Screen, and more.

iOS 18 also introduces Apple Intelligence, the artificial intelligence system that will be available in iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia. Apple Intelligence is built with privacy in mind, and it can understand and create text and images, draw from personal context, and simplify and accelerate daily tasks.

Unfortunately, some of these new features will require a late-model iPhone, meaning not all iPhones will be compatible with iOS 18, and only the very latest iPhones will fully support all of iOS 18’s new features.

iOS 18 will be compatible with the following iPhone models:

  • iPhone 15
  • iPhone 15 Plus
  • iPhone 15 Pro
  • iPhone 15 Pro Max
  • iPhone 14
  • iPhone 14 Plus
  • iPhone 14 Pro
  • iPhone 14 Pro Max
  • iPhone 13
  • iPhone 13 mini
  • iPhone 13 Pro
  • iPhone 13 Pro Max
  • iPhone 12
  • iPhone 12 mini
  • iPhone 12 Pro
  • iPhone 12 Pro Max
  • iPhone 11
  • iPhone 11 Pro
  • iPhone 11 Pro Max iPhone Xs
  • iPhone XS Max
  • iPhone XR
  • iPhone SE (2nd generation or later)

As you can see, the good news is that Apple hasn’t dropped any devices from its iOS compatibility list this year, meaning if your iPhone worked with iOS 17, you’re good to go. The bad news is you may not have access to all of the new features of iOS 18, in particular, the new Apple Intelligence features.

Other than Apple Intelligence, most of the new features in iOS 18 should be supported on the iPhone 12 and newer. The iPhone 12 was also the minimum device requirement for the most advanced features in iOS 17.
