New iOS 18 Feature: Tap to Cash – Pay by Touching iPhones

Apple on Monday previewed iOS 18, the upcoming major update to Apple’s iPhone operating system. The upcoming release brings several new features, including a new “Tap to Cash” feature that provides a new way to make Apple Cash payments.

As you likely have been able to determine,  Tap to Cash allows users to pay for things simply by tapping two iPhones together. The feature works much like NameDrop, which allows users to exchange contacts by tapping their devices together.

Tap to Cash is a new way to pay using Apple’s Tap to Pay NFC functionality. Apple says that Tap to Cash allows users to transfer money without sharing any personal information, which ensures that privacy is maintained for all involved parties.

In addition to Tap to Cash, several new Apple Wallet features are coming in iOS 18, including displaying reward card information, such as points totals and redemption premiums. Also on the way is improved support for tickets for events in the Wallet app. Users will be able to see seat numbers, directions, and other event info.
