Apple unveiled iOS 18 on Monday and among the several new and improved features is an updated Phone app that brings several new features, including a search interface for call history, autofill for phone numbers, seamless switching of SIM cards, and the ability to automatically record and transcribe your live phone calls.
After placing or answering a call, you can turn on the recording function. All of the participants on the call are notified that the call is being recorded, so everyone is aware from the start of the recording that it is taking place.
In addition to creating an audio recording of the call, a transcript of the call can also be created. The feature uses Apple Intelligence, Apple’s upcoming AI features, can generate a summary of the key points on the call, allowing you to see what was important at a glance.
Phone call transcription will be available in English (U.S., UK, Australia, Canada, India, Ireland, New Zealand, Singapore), Spanish (U.S., Mexico, Spain), French (France), German (Germany), Japanese (Japan), Mandarin Chinese (China mainland, Taiwan), Cantonese (China mainland, Hong Kong), and Portuguese (Brazil).
Apple also plans to bring the same audio and transcription features to the Notes app, so you can record audio and get a live transcript on the iPhone 12 and later.
